Artist professional development workshops for organisations

Mark Devereux Projects provides tailored professional development group workshops for artists throughout the UK. We work closely with partner organisations to plan the content of the session in advance to ensure a tailored service of information, advice and support for the participants.

Workshops could include (but not limited to):

  • Making a strong application, from start to submit
  • Finding the right opportunity
  • Talking about your work
  • Writing about your work
  • Understanding your audience
  • Funding and fundraising
  • Negotiation
  • Project planning
  • Collaboration

The length of the workshop can be tailored to the partner organisation’s requirements. Previously we have led individual half-day and full-day workshops and programmes of multiple workshops over 6-12 months.

“Heart of Glass commissioned Mark Devereux Projects in 2018 to devise and facilitate our first national professional development programme for socially engaged practitioners. Approximately 30 practitioners from across the UK participated in the programme of six one-day sessions gaining invaluable advice on subjects including funding & fundraising, project management and collaboration in the field.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Mark and Jack throughout the programme’s design and delivery. They created a varied programme perfectly tailored to the needs of Heart of Glass and the range of practitioners with whom we work. Not only drawing on their own wealth of expertise, they also engaged a number of exciting external facilitators to deliver bespoke sessions on specialist areas of practice.

Feedback from artists has been hugely positive. Mark and Jack’s carefully crafted methodology engaged practitioners in a valuable mix of mentoring, knowledge exchange and networking. As one participant noted, ‘…the session…felt really personal, and meaningful. It was also good to have time with Mark and Jack to chat – it felt like they really cared about what they were doing, and what people had to say. Everyone was generous with their time and their ideas.’

Mark and Jack’s approach quickly nurtured an accessible group dynamic that has positively impacted subsequent Heart of Glass professional development programmes and enabled practitioners to find new connections and opportunities. We are particularly delighted to hear that Anna Horton Cremin has been selected for Mark Devereux Projects’ represented artist programme.

At a time when practitioners are finding it more and more difficult to access the crucial guidance they need, Mark Devereux Projects’ ongoing commitment to providing relevant, high quality, collaborative, targeted professional development support is increasingly scarce and unquestionably vital.”

“I found that the workshops were easy to follow and found myself sat there thinking ‘I can do this’ the language used was simple and really opened up my eyes to so many possibilities. I particularly found the funding workshop interesting as I have never applied for funding previously and always thought it was difficult, Mark and Jack made it really easy to follow and understand.”
