In Addition, &Model, Leeds

&Model Gallery | Leeds | UK
Launch: Thursday 16 April, 6-8pm
Exhibition: 17 – 26 April 2015

Mark Devereux Projects are delighted to have been invited to select and curate In Addition, a group exhibition celebrating the previous two years of work that has taken place at &Model gallery in Leeds and adds to the organisation’s changing approach as a project space. In Addition showcases the work of 15 artists who have all been involved in volunteering to support the day-to-day running and invigilation of the gallery space at &Model.

Taking advantage of the character and hidden spaces within the building at &Model, themes within the exhibition vary from how we digest and use social media, to questions surrounding feminism, sexuality and sexism. In Addition features work made in a variety of mediums including, painting, sculpture, photography, video, drawing and performance.

“We are proud to showcase the intriguing and diverse work of the young artists who have helped us to establish &Model’s reputation as a serious contemporary art space in Leeds. The quality of their work stands up well alongside the internationally established artists we have brought to the city over the last two years.”
[Derek Horton, &Model Co-Director]

In Addition has been selected and curated by Mark Devereux Projects (Manchester). Prior to the exhibition, Director, Mark Devereux led a series of one-to-one mentoring and advice sessions with each of the exhibiting artists to provide critical advice and support based around their ongoing artistic practices and careers. Texts for the exhibition will be provided by Jess Hughes and Rebecca Starr.

The selected artists for In Addition are Lily Ackroyd-Willoughby, Aishah Burrows, William Clarke, Jade Cradden, Annabel Crosby, Annabel Florence Crossley, Michaela Dehnert, Sarah-Joy Ford, Daisy Forster, Tom McGinn, Samela Otovic, Ned Pooler, Megan Skinner, Alice Walton and Helena Whittingham.

&model is a curatorial project established in 2012 by James Chinneck, Chris Bloor and Derek Horton. Following a two year continuous exhibition programme (from January 2013 to January 2015) working alongside guest curators to show a diverse range of international artists, they are continuing to use our three-floor 19th century building in central Leeds to develop projects and events that bring contemporary artists and others to work alongside some of the city’s emerging practitioners. The project space is enabled by RTTA.
