In our next Mixing It Up feature, artist Shaun C Badham recollects the first piece of artwork he remembers seeing, who he goes to when he needs advice and his recent collaborative project.
Shaun C. Badham is an artist based in Essex, UK (b.1990) Often responding to the socio-political, historical and human attributes of a given site, Shaun instigates long-term collaborative projects that are realised across different mediums, from local community actions to large-scale sculptural installations.
Notable projects include, I’M STAYING (2014 to 2021), MORNING (2014 to 2018), PLOT (2018 to present) and SCB x JL (2022 to present). With a research led practice and an emphasis on process, moments of public activity tend to facilitate investigation and dialogue surrounding the project, whether that’s via an exhibition, group walk, a book or a workshop.
Shaun’s projects; are site responsive and collaborative allowing opportunity to work with different groups and organisations: I’M STAYING: Arnolfini, Bristol Biennial, Annka Kultys Gallery, YAC, Sculpture in the City, Outpost Gallery and Letrangere Gallery. MORNING: TAP, Radical Essex, Beecroft Museum, South Kiosk, Kestle Barton and New Town Utopia. Shaun graduated from an MFA at Goldsmiths in 2017 and received Essex Art and Culture Fund 2022, Firstsite Collectors Group Bursary Award 2019, Dialogue 5 by Mark Devereux Projects 2018, Threads Micro Residency 2018, A-N Bursary Venice Biennial, 2017; Grants for the Arts ACE - MORNING project 2016 and Curfew Tower Residency, Northern Ireland 2013
